So , me and Jimmy are back from our long week in sunny Florida on the USSF ‘B’ coaching course. Eight days of listening, training & coaching was very testing but very enjoyable. By that, i mean on average we we’re spending 8-9 hours on the pitch every day and then in the evening we were having lectures on different topics involving soccer,  tactics, methods, fitness or psychology . Most of the instructors on the course were very good and some were a bit uninterested . The head guy who’s name is Gordon Miller was very good and in fact a canadian guy now working for the United States Soccer Federation( Says a lot for the CSA ). The course was very organized and went into good detail about what a coach needs as a base to become a successful manager. We met some great people down there on the course as well, ranging from Josh Wolfe (Kansas City & USA) to very renowned college coaches from all over the US. It was good to see & hear other people’s opinions on the beautiful game and also see coaches ideas and practices put on show in front of everyone. All in all i thought it was a very beneficial week for us both and will definitely help us in the future with whatever we decide to do once our playing careers are over.

    Hey Danny,

As as TFC season ticket holder since day one, I have enjoyed your play. Now I look forward to watching you coach my daughter at the Kingston clinic on January 30. (PS. I may steal some tips for own training sessions!)

Thanks Bruno, i am looking forward to coming out to Kingston and seeing what talent there is outside of Toronto. I am going to start doing alot more stuff out of town and giving the chance to kids/fans to meet me and other players in person.

What exactly does a level B coaching license entail?

What’d you think of the draft? Cronin was on the soccer show yesterday, seems like a really capable kid. Along with O’brian and Frei, some great talent.

Canada has a tremendous coach training system… for hockey! It will take a few years for football to get as well organized but it can & will happen as long as guys like Danny and Jim look forward to bringing their experience and talent to coaching.

hehe..not sure how I posted anonymously (I posted the first comment) Six weeks eh? talk about keeping you in suspense…by the way-Canadian coaching credentials mean absolutely nothing outside of Canada…which is kind of a sad state of affairs…I am hoping some one eventually over at the CSA wakes up and realizes that we need to model a different program if we want to make our mark on international soccer…good luck..I hope 9 days of hard work pays off for you :P

Gord’s brother is Gary Miller, who runs Bryst Academy.
What says even more about the CSA is that you and Jimmy are pursuing USSF licenses. Jim would get fast tracked to the CSA B based on his National team duty - as would you with your pro experience. Speaks volumnes that you guys are going the USSF route. A good choice by the way, far deeper curriculum than the CSA. Look into the NSCAA program, its interesting as well.
Thanks for investing your “free” time with Canadian kids.
    Cheers and good luck.

Jimmy also said that the US system is miles ahead of the canadian one at this moment in time. So by doing these courses and seeing the input & organization that goes into them is only going to help us and other coaches from Canada. We need to take note because the majority of instructors on this course were from around the world, Argentina ,Brazil ,Colombia and parts of europe. Soccer is the biggest sport in the world and having all these methods and tactics passed on by experienced coaches from these places is only going to help the education and progression in that country. There is such a large portion of kids playing soccer now in this country and hopefully the future is bright, but only if the coaching structure is re-evaluated.

I hope that when your playing day are done that you can find a job coaching within the TFC organization - either as an assisstant to Carver or maybe in charge of our youth side. You’re one of ‘us’, I’d hate to see you working for another club!
