A bunch of us play in indoor leagues throughout the GTA over the winter, I was wondering if you could maybe suggest a warm up and cool down routine that could help ease the next day pain for our aging bodies. Often we don’t have much time on the field before or after the match, so would need to be something we could do on the sidelines.

As you guys are in tight time slots and have very little warm-up time, all i can suggest is to do some on the move stretches which combine all the major muscles that you use while playing soccer. As soon as you go on the pitch after getting the heart rate pumping faster, i would do 4 to 6 lengths of the pitch at a good pace to get the heart pumping at max. After that you should be breathing heavily and as we call it in soccer , got rid of your ‘ First Wind ‘.

  2. Ryan S says:

Do you personally read soccer forums, perhaps in particular bigsoccer? How about other TFC players? Do they flip through those threads to see what the fans are saying?

I guess more importantly, does anyone in the front office go to those sites?

    • danny says:

I think a few players like to read what’s going on but most stay clear from them. They are for the fans and you are getting lots of different opinions and views, so for some players who are not very confident in their own ability and go on and read stuff about themselves that they do not like. Well this could effect their mind sight and game play even more.
Me personally , i like to go on the BBC football website to check on all the latest news back home and keep up to date on all my ex-teams.

    Hey Danny,

When you get a new pair of boots do you do anything to ‘work them in’ or do you just try to find ones that have a best fit and use them as is?

    Cheers!

    • danny says:

I am not one of these guys that has hundreds of pairs of boots and change them every match. I probably go through 2 to 3 pairs in a season and thats only because of the turf! In england i had one pair for training and one pair for matches as i do not like wearing new boots and breaking them in. The best way to work new boots in is either in wet weather or to soak or heat the boots up before you wear them.

Danny love the blog and your question idea. You are an inspiration to tfc fans, please help the csa and not leave TO, coach like mo said.

My question is: What is the most exciting aspect about the game for you and where do you see yourself coaching in 5 years.

P.s. Radiohead, Oasis or cold paly, which one rocks your list mate.

    • danny says:

The most exciting aspect for me is getting up every morning and going to do something that i actually love doing and getting paid for it. It was always my dream to be a pro-soccer player and i am living that dream, so i do not take it for granted and just enjoy everyday and match-day like it could be my last.
As for the music question, that is far too hard to call. Each one of those bands are unbelievable in their own way, so i could not pick a favorite.

  5. Mon The Red says:

    Hey Danny,

Who would you rank as the top five DJ’s.

    Mon The Reds.

    • danny says:

Thats a really hard question.. My favorite DJ of all time has got to be guy from New York called ‘DJ Disciple’ who used to play in London alot and spun deep vocal house. I also like another 2 guys from New York called ‘Masters At Work’ who were the masters at using 4 turntables during a set. Another a guy from London(UK) who i like is DJ HYPE who spun the dirtiest jungle music and could scratch like crazy. And on a totally different vibe i would have to say a guy called ‘Dave Roddigan’ who is a master in his class and been around for a long long time. He looks like an old school teacher but spins dub plate Reggae and old school reggae, he is truly a legend in the reggae world.

  6. London says:

    Mr Dichio,

    I don’t have children yet but when I do……

    Will you Godfather my children?

  7. Dee says:

There’s been talk of TFC bringing in a DP for next season, Nuno Gomes’s name is out there, what do you think about that? Also, personally who would you realistically bring in as a DP if you could?

    • danny says:

If we are attracting the likes of Nuno Gomes to the club then it can only be good for TFC. A guy with great international experience and a knack of scoring goals which he would do quite easily in this league. My argument is as i have pointed out before, is one guy going to change our fortunes as a team. Is it not better to go and get 4 or 5 experienced guys that have played in the MLS for a few years and know this league well. On top of that you add a couple of players from either Europe, south america or africa which hopefully all stays under the salary cap!

  8. matt says:

    Hey Danny

I’m interested in your thoughts on MLS using NFL stadiums. Do you feel it reflects poorly on the league using (american) football stadiums? Though we are seeing more SSS which is nice.

    Matt

    • danny says:

I hate playing in the NFL stadiums because its like playing in a ‘ghost town’. Thats no dis-respect to the opposing fans or to the NFL(which I love) , but soccer is meant to be played in a stadium where fans are nice and close to the pitch where the atmosphere is electric. And if you are dribbling the ball or making a run, you dont have to check what numerous yard line you are passing at that moment. My Dad was over from the UK when we played the Red Bulls away and he switched off the TV after 20mins because he could not stand watching the game with all the lines on the pitch!

  9. david m. says:

We (TFC) are still in our infancy, having only been in existence for two seasons. Since midway through the first season we’ve heard the fans calling for a DP, and the calling has turning into shouting as of late. I for one am reluctant to see a DP come in because I fear that our team will turn into a Chelsea or a Man City. Looking at the world’s top teams it’s apparent that spending large on quality players can pay off in the long term - just look at the teams that pay the highest salaries/transfer fees and the teams at the top of the table - they’re generally the same.

I for one would never support Chelsea and I feel really bad for Man City fans that used to see City as the people’s team - the place to watch local boys fighting their way against the rich clubs. Now City are slowly turning into a Man Utd jr. by throwing their cash around. In doing so, they risk losing their identify.

I know you’re a QPR and have been forever, so my question is this - would you want to see QPR start spending tens of millions of pounds to get the world’s top players, or have them continue to struggle to crack into the EPL year after year?

    • danny says:

I do not think you will see any team turn into a chelsea or Man city in the MLS as we have the protection of every team having a salary cap. I think this is good especially in the MLS as we have a more level league and anybody can beat anybody on their given day. In england its totally different and i think its destroying the league and also now hitting the fans even harder in the pocket.
As for your question Dave, i would love to see QPR get back in the premiership but only through the right way. And thats to have a good blend of young and old experienced players with a couple of flair players in the mix to battle through a solid season in the very physical championship and go up the right way. I would hate to pay my way to win things as i find that a quick fix cop-out! Thats just my opinion though…

  10. Steve says:

You are a favoured and inspirational player for all TFC fans and we look forward to seeing you help in leading the team to even greater heights. That said, have you ever considered acting? I can totally see you in the next Guy Ritchie movie. Have you met the man and has he begged you to be the protagonist in his next flick?

    • danny says:

I love all Guy Ritchie’s movies especially ‘ Lock Stock ‘ and ‘ Snatch ‘, unfortunately i have never met him but met plenty of the cast in those films and of course played against ‘Bullet proof Tony’(AKA Vinnie Jones).

  11. Yohan says:

I understand that you’ve been a DJ for quite some time. Exactly what genre of music do you generally play? And do you happen to have a set done by you posted online somewhere?

    Also, vinyls or CDs?

    • danny says:

Its all about vinyl for me, and only vinyl. When i first started getting into DJing and music it was late 80’s early 90’s, and i was really into deep house & Acid house. I progressed into a lot of US Garage which was deep vocal house with edge. It depended on which club i was playing at and which crowd i was playing for as this totally made my choice of what music i would play that night. As of now i love all types of music ranging from blues to dance, reggae to rap, dance to rock and indie to classical. It just depends on what mood i am in.

  12. Greg says:

You’ve played for clubs like QPR who have over 100 years of history, but playing for TFC is your first experience in playing for a new club. First off, I’d like to know in comparison to more established clubs, what is TFC doing right and where can we improve? I’d also like to know if there’s a sense among the players that you are creating our club’s founding history and if those feelings get carried on to the pitch? One day, I’ll be able to tell my grandkids that I saw Danny Dichio score the first ever goal in TFC history, hopefully I’ll also be able to tell them where I was when we won our first league title and championship :o)

    • danny says:

Nice question Greg. I think for all the players that have been here for the majority of the 2 years there is a feeling of proudness that we were part of the beginning. Going into these opposing grounds as a new team gives us great pleasure as we were the first players in the clubs history to represent the team. We are steadily building something here and we have the right people in charge who are going to help this club progress, we just need a little tweaking here & there and i think you will see more improvement again this year.
